Join us on Sunday, November 22 for a laufabrauð making class, hosted at the home of one of our members. Laufabrauð was a beloved Christmas tradition, especially in North Iceland, and it dates back to at least the 1700s. Wheat flour was scarce and expensive back then, so families rolled the dough as thin as possible to make it go further and give everyone a piece. They gathered in the weeks before Christmas to roll the rounds paper-thin, carve intricate leaf-like patterns into each one and fry them until golden and crisp. The patterns became a point of pride, and many families had their own designs that were handed down through the generations. Whether you've cut laufabrauð since you were a child or you've never tried it, this will be a warm, hands-on afternoon of baking and chatting. Kids are welcome too, with an adult. If you have a laufabrauðsjárn (pattern roller) or a small sharp knife, please bring it along. Everyone is welcome, but please register using the form on the right so we know how many to expect. We'll email the address to everyone who registers the day before the event. Everyone takes home their own laufabrauð to enjoy over the holidays. Date: November 22 Time: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM Location: Highlands Ranch, CO ### Register here ## Save the date Save the date for these upcoming events.
